SHOWTIME SNELLVILLE
Growing up in the 90’s, Jonathon Robins was drawn to big soulful vocals. In his early years, big voices in movies and the radio drew him towards the music industry. Music felt like magic to this Snellville native, and he wanted to be part of it. At his first public performance back in 2010 at an Atlanta Falcons game, he sang the national anthem acapella and found himself not being nervous, but excited — and it was just a precursor of what was to come. Jonathon Robins is a Brookwood High School alum, and we are thrilled to “dig in” and find out more about this Snellville soloist.
SOUL SEARCHING
When writing new music, he will tell you that many times songs just come to him. However, if he writes a hook and then puts it away for a while, it can definitely take some time, work and coffee to revitalize it. When you hear one of Jonathon’s songs you will immediately feel the pop genre, but spiced with the authority of soul. Jonathon’s music offers a breadth and depth that pulls you into a musical journey. Music inspired Jonathon to dream, and he wants his audience to come along on a dream-filled journey with him through his lyrics. Just listen to any of his songs and you will feel how he truly wants to connect with the audience through common emotions and the heart of the collective.

When Jonathon has spare time, we wanted to know how he spends it. As a genuine Gwinnetian, what is Jonathon’s favorite local spot to hang out? He told us that when in town, he enjoys meeting up with friends at Local Republic in downtown Lawrenceville. His favorite spot in Local Republic is the upstairs area with the large windows and panoramic view of the downtown Lawrenceville square. Jonathon even reminisced about a time around Christmas several years ago when he was at Local Republic enjoying some wine with friends and family. Snow was falling, and he had a great view of the church across the street; and he remembers this moment as “perfect”. Outside of Gwinnett, he currently calls Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward area home and has dreams of one day performing at The Tabernacle. Jonathon also enjoys nature by hiking, camping, trail running and boating. He attributes his love of nature and the outdoors to growing up with a lot of woods to explore just behind his home in Snellville.
OPTIMISTIC OUTLOOK
One of the words Jonathon uses to describe himself is optimistic. He is proud to be a musical artist and knows this is a tough business which offers no guarantee of success. Jonathon uses his ambition to move forward with courage towards his true love of music. When asked who he would like the opportunity to collaborate, with he stated that “a collaboration with Christina Aguilera in a raw, edgy piano sound would be pretty killer.” Jonathon also takes inspiration from Adele, Hozier, Leon Bridges and Lord Huron, and noted Gavin DeGraw especially as having a huge influence on his style. The album “ChariotStripped” by Gavin DeGraw was the album that helped define Jonathon as an artist. As you can tell, Jonathon has big goals for his future and we can’t wait to watch his goals become reality.
