DiG DEEP: BUFORD HAS THE BUSINESS EDGE

By

Welcome to historic Buford—a thriving live, work and play community! Face any direction and you’ll find shopping, recreation, history, business opportunities and more. Start with Buford’s historic downtown district, with its many restaurants, shops and galleries. It’s the perfect place to get acquainted with this great city. Friendly restauranteurs invite you to come by for a freshly brewed cup of coffee, glass of wine or a full course meal before you enjoy a casual stroll along Main Street.

For families relocating to the area, one of the city’s brightest shining gems is the award-winning Buford City School System. The City of Buford is proud of the quality of education its teachers and administrators bring to the students. If shopping is your passion, the largest mall in the Southeast is waiting for you! The Mall of Georgia, just minutes from downtown historic Buford, offers the big names in shopping as well as a theater and a wide array of services all in one beautiful location. Spend an hour, spend the day, there’s plenty to do at the Mall of Georgia. Greater Buford is also neighbor to the Triple A Affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Be sure to take in some games while you’re in the area—enjoy major league excitement with a backyard feel!

From its distinction as “The Leather City” in the early 1800s and early 1900s to its present day notoriety as home to a bustling main street and many local, national and international businesses, the City of Buford continues to be a proactive center of commerce.

Businesses are drawn to Buford because of its well-developed infrastructure that enhances the efficiency of business operations and favorably impacts bottom-line profits. The city also has an abundant, highly motivated, production-oriented labor force. Its city-owned water, sewer, gas and electric systems provide the lowest utility rates in the area. The City of Buford also has excellent, locally controlled primary and secondary education systems with a large number of major universities and technical schools within a 50-mile radius. Its scenic beauty and small town friendliness create a nurturing environment and wonderful oasis for employees. Along with all of these benefits and attractions, major industrial and commercial acreage is available.

To ensure the city remains vibrant and relevant, Buford has undergone an update to its Livable Centers Initiative program administered by the Atlanta Regional Commission. Entitled Forward Buford, the program links land use, transportation and market analysis in town centers, activity centers and corridors. It also provides planning grants and transportation infrastructure funding.
